Cuiabá, Mato Grosso
Capital of the state of Mato Grosso, Cuiabá is the gateway to Brazil's northern swampy area known as Pantanal.
It is accessible by land or air from all major cities in the country. Among its attractions the National Park of Chapada dos Veadeiros and the city of Aguas Quentes, with its hot water natural fountains, stand out.

Other Mato Grosso's important cities include Pocone, Barão de Melgaço and Cáceres.
To visit the Pantanal one should be aware of the region's climatic characteristics. Hunting is forbidden by Law and there are some vaccination requirements on the visitor.
Crocodiles can easily be spotted during the river cruises and other tours through the region's main localities.
